Bucks Open Studios

This weekend I took advantage of all the great local artist’s studios open to the public as part of Bucks Open Studios. The event has been running for over two decades and is a great celebration of the counties art and crafts. A local tour of just some of the listed events enabled me to see some fantastic artists and crafts people (including some of my old art teachers!). Our first stop was at the Clare Foundation building in Saunderton, which I recommend due to the sheer quantity (and quality) of the artists work on show, and then we took a stroll around Haddenham and stopped in lots of little studios and exhibition spaces.

There are hundreds of people to see, but here are a few of my favourites:

June Kingsbury
Really interesting work focusing on collected things, absence and memory. A bit conceptual and different, we bought a little cast of a rooks skull while we there.

Annie Appleyard
Fantastic pieces of jewellery, silver work and enamel as well as beautiful wooded boxes – would like it all please!

Diane Bedser
Striking, modern landscapes and seascapes that you can stare at for hours.

Katherine Whitby
Wonderful paintings and drawings by an extremely talented artist.

Heather Hunter
Passionate and knowledgeable artist producing inventive artist’s books, prints and cards.

If you are local to the area you may have noticed all the bright yellow signs that have popped up all over the place. Follow them, you may sometimes feel like you are about to walk into someone’s house but don’t worry – there are hidden gems to be found!  The open studios run until 24 June so there is still time to get out there and explore.
